FAR Manager & Plugins

"FAR Manager is a program for managing files and archives in Windows operating systems (9x/Me/NT/2000/XP). FAR Manager works in text mode and provides a simple and intuitive interface for performing most of the necessary actions: viewing files and directories, editing, copying and renaming files and many other operations." [FarManager.com - official site]

The most important feature of FAR is its possibility to host plugins. With a couple of plugins (and there are severa hundreds available) FAR can turn into the best featured source code editor when we compare the functions and simplicity of the interface. And writing of plugins is so easy, all you need is a C++ compiler, there are lots of plugins with sources around the world that you can use to write your own.

The screen shots from FarManager.com might tell you more about FAR in shorter time. Yep, it seems like Norton Commander if you are old enough to remember. Far Manager, Norton Commander are sometimes called OFM - Orthodox File Managers. More about OFM can be found on the site of Softpanorama Society.

On my pages you can find some useful information about FAR and its plugins. After some years using FAR I have created fine collection of plugins. It may be a good starting point for anyone who seems to strugle with the plugin jungle and definitelly the best distribution for my colleagues.
